Elections are over. Narendra Modi is back in saddle with a clear, resounding victory. BJP on its own got clear majority and with the allies nearer the two third majority.  This is quite remarkable given the fact that after the era of Jawaharlal Nehru no other leader got such an endorsement from the electorate for a second term in succession.  That also brings with it a heavy responsibility of fulfilling people's expectations which needs a clear cut people-centric agenda for implementation.  Prime Minister has done well to emphasise inclusive agenda which takes care of the minorities when he spoke to the members of parliament on his election as the leader of the NDA.  In the run up to elections opposition as well as a section of the media whom the prime minister's rightfully described as 'Khan Market gang' vitiated the atmosphere by claiming that minorities will be unsafe if BJP returns to power.  Western media also joined hands with these ...

ఈమధ్య గుజరాత్ రాష్ట్రంలో పెప్సీ కంపెనీ వారు రైతుల పైన కోర్టులో కోటి రూపాయల నష్టపరిహారం కోరుతూ కేసులు వేశారు.  తాము సంపాదించిన పేటెంట్ కు విఘాతం కలిగించే విధంగా విత్తనాలు ఉపయోగించి వ్యవసాయం చేశారనేది వారి మీద మోపబడిన ప్రధాన అభియోగం. 2001వ సంవత్సరంలో రూపొందించిన మొక్కలలో రకాలు రైతుల హక్కుల పరిరక్షణ చట్ట(plant varieties and farmers rights protection act ) ఉల్లంఘన కు రైతులపై ఈ కేసు పెట్టడం అయింది. 1989వ సంవత్సరం నుంచి భారతదేశంలో పంజాబ్ రాష్ట్రం తో మొదలుపెట్టి ఒప్పంద వ్యవసాయ విధానం ద్వారా(contract farming) వ్యవసాయ ఉత్పత్తుల కొనుగోలు అమ్మకం చేస్తూ ఉన్న పెప్సీ కంపెనీ దాదాపు 30 సంవత్సరాల అనుభవం తరువాత ఈరోజు రైతులపై కేసులు పెట్టటం కొంత విచిత్రంగానే కనిపిస్తుంది. కానీ పెప్సీ కంపెనీ పెట్టిన ఈ కేసులో మూలంగా మొక్కలలో రకాలు రైతుల ప్రయోజనాల పరిరక్షణ చట్టంలోని కొన్ని లొసుగులు అంశాలు ప్రాధాన్యతను సంతరించుకున్నాయి.    పై చట్టంలో సెక్షన్ 39 క్రింద వ్యవసాయదారుల హక్కుల పరిరక్షణ గురించి చెప్పడం జరిగింది. బ్రాండింగ్ చేసి వాణిజ్యపరంగా  అమ్మ నంతవరకు వ్యవసాయ దారుల చేత  రక్షిత వంగడాల వాడ...

Pepsico company recently filed cases against Gujarat farmers for growing potato varieties for which it has the plant protection rights. They have  slapped cases against farmers in local courts in Gujarat claiming a compensation of a crore  of rupees. They seem to be now willing for an  out of court settlement with farmers. A company which has entered the Indian market in 1989 and encouraged contract farming first in Punjab and then expanded to other states at this point of time to get involved with a patent infringement issues with the farmers looks a bit strange. But in the process they have brought to the fore substantial issues of protection of farmers rights under the protection of plant varieties and farmers rights act of 2001. Coffee is the drink with which I have grown. It's the specific pure peaberry variety raw beans which my father used to get home from the nearest mofussil headquarters every month when he went to collect his salary. They were roasted to perfection on a pan by my mother and grounded manually filling the house with the coffee aroma. Daily in the morning as we sat around the charcoal stove where the filter was set and the coffee was being prepared, my earlier day performance and behaviour were reviewed by my father who also was my school headmaster. W hen I went to the houses of others in the village, the coffee used to be invariably chicory blended Brooke Bond coffee. Though I did not particularly like the taste of chicory blended coffee, others used to drink and like it but the chicory always gave the coffee very deep and peculiar colour and taste.
