Coffee is the drink with which I have grown. It's the specific pure peaberry variety raw beans which my father used to get home from the nearest mofussil headquarters every month when he went to collect his salary. They were roasted to perfection on a pan by my mother and grounded manually filling the house with the coffee aroma. Daily in the morning as we sat around the charcoal stove where the filter was set and the coffee was being prepared, my earlier day performance and behaviour were reviewed by my father who also was my school headmaster. W hen I went to the houses of others in the village, the coffee used to be invariably chicory blended Brooke Bond coffee. Though I did not particularly like the taste of chicory blended coffee, others used to drink and like it but the chicory always gave the coffee very deep and peculiar colour and taste. Intermediate or the plus two stage is a very crucial phase in the academic and the future professional life of students in India.  In a system where there is no flexibility of interchange between disciplines at a later stage Intermediate decides in what profession a student is going to finally take up in his/her career. But this is the phase of exams which at different times were mismanaged leading to a lot of suffering and heart burn among students and their parents. Election Commission and the state government Last week  Andhra Pradesh witnessed a peculiar situation of the state government going to the High court challenging action of the election commission. Election Commission wanted state  government to exclude three police officers from election related duties. The directions of the election commission were first obeyed  by the state government but the next day invoking a provision in the representation of the peoples act state government excluded the additional DG intelligence from the list of police officers entrusted with election related work and to that extent revised the earlier order thus continuing additional DG intelligence in his office. State government also approached the High court against the orders of the election commission.
